Chemotherapy and Radiation Treatment
Hair loss due to Chemotherapy and Radiation treatment varies depending on the type of drug administered and what part of the body receives radiation treatment.
Chemotherapy drugs can damage hair follicles. The result is typically hair falling out in clumps during stimulation such as brushing and shampooing. Many patients experience hair loss during the night. Hair loss can vary among patients and will generally occur within the first few weeks of therapy and progress from there.
When Radiation Treatment is delivered directly to the scalp, hair loss may occur. Depending upon the dosage and length of treatment, damage to the hair follicle may be permanent and hair growth will not happen naturally.
